Carbon PEEK boards

For particularly demanding applications, Haufler Composites produces carbon fibre/PEEK plates using a press method. PEEK is a high-temperature-resistant thermoplastic.

Besides the well-known properties of carbon fibre such as high strength and stiffness, the PEEK matrix in particular offers very high chemical resistance, low wear, low water absorption, excellent sliding properties and a maximum service temperature of approximately 260 °C (depending on the application).

Medical technology

Xellentic® CF PEEK semi-finished products are manufactured to strict quality standards and meet the requirements of medical technology. Our carbon fibre/PEEK materials are biocompatible and can be steam sterilised.

Their high strength and stiffness combined with excellent dimensional stability make them ideally suited for use in medical devices. Our CF/PEEK semi-finished products have been used for more than 15 years, among other things for radiolucent targeting arms.

Industry

Carbon PEEK plates from tape are produced with fibre orientation in any direction – e.g. unidirectional – and a fibre content ratio of approx. 60 %.

In contrast to carbon PEEK compounds, in which the thermoplastic is mixed with short carbon fibres, much higher mechanical characteristics are achieved by using endless carbon fibres.

In corrosive environments, CF-PEEK valves, bearings or slide rings in particular have a much longer service life and lower maintenance costs.

Thanks to their high wear resistance and chemical resistance, Xellentic® CF PEEK is used as a bearing material in corrosive environments, in piston rings and in heavily loaded back-up rings.

Depending on the geometry and application, the components are machined from semi-finished plates or pressed directly as moulded parts.

Valves, bearings and slide rings in corrosive environments in particular achieve a long service life and low maintenance costs when made from Xellentic® CF PEEK.

Our Xellentic® CF PEEK plates are used for components exposed to extreme conditions and are characterised by:

  • steam sterilisability
  • very good chemical resistance
  • excellent wear resistance
  • low coefficient of friction
  • high abrasion resistance
  • no volatile constituents
